How to Identify and Create the Best Crews and New Leaders

Crew supervisors are essential to a successful landscape operation. Beyond job skill, supervisors must possess leadership traits that allow them to excel. This session will help supervisors understand their crucial role and help laborers understand how to move up the ladder. Mr. Garcia has seen all sides of the landscape business. He understands how to turn cultural and language barriers into opportunities.

10:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.
Experts Panel
Moderator: Carlos Puente-Martinez, Four Lakes Village
The second half of the morning will include a panel of experts to discuss the fundamentals of every landscape project. The panel, conducted entirely in Spanish, will feature overviews of the following topics:
• Lawncare, pests and fertilizers – Julio Barrientos, Lurvey Landscape Supply
• Landscape maintenance – Bernie Carranza, Christy Webber Landscapes
• Landscape equipment – Armando Actis, Rendel’s Inc.
• Hardscape installation and calculations – Juan Calderon, Unilock & Ed Gomez, Paradise Landscape Design
Attendees will be treated to brief overviews of the topics and then allowed to address questions to the panel.

11:45 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Lunch
You are welcome to join the group for lunch on your own. Come and meet new colleagues and sample the many dining options on the Pier.

1:00 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Exhibit Hall Guided Tour
The ILCA Latino Relations Committee will take the group on a one-hour guided tour of specific exhibitor booths. Suppliers will represent: handheld equipment, heavy equipment, pesticides/fertilizers, landscape materials, irrigation and hardscape supplies. There will be short presentations at each booth in Spanish. Learn about new products in a relaxed, group setting. Following the guided tour, the group can walk the show on its own. Enjoy Spanish education, networking, exhibit booths and fun in one day.

Cómo Identificar y Crear los Mejores
Supervisores y Grupos de Trabajo José García, Natural Creations Landscaping Co., Joliet, IL Supervisores de cuadrillas son esenciales para que una compañía de paisajismo tenga éxito. Además de tener habilidades para este trabajo, los supervisores deben poseer características de liderazgo que los permita sobresalir en su desempeño. Esta sesión ayudará a los supervisores entender su rol crucial y ayudar a los trabajadores entender como subir la escalera del éxito. El señor García ha participado en todos los aspectos de una compañía de paisajismo. El entiende como convertir barreras de cultura e idioma in oportunidades.

La segunda parte de la mañana incluirá un panel de expertos para discutir sobre ítems fundamentales para cada proyecto de paisajismo. El panel, que se conducirá completamente en español, incluirá los siguientes temas:

• Mantenimiento del paisajismo – Bernie Carranza, Christy Webber Landscapes
• Maquinaria para el paisajismo – Prof. Armando A. Actis, Rendel´s Inc.
• Instalación y cálculos para albañilería (tabiques, ladrillos, cemento, etc.) – Juan Calderón, Unilock y Ed Gomez Paradise, Landscape Design

Están bienvenidos de reunirse con nuestro grupo para almorzar por su cuenta. Venga y conéctese con colegas suyos y disfrute las opciones que los restaurantes de Navy Pier les ofrece.

13:00 – 14:30
Gira guiada por la sala de exhibiciones
El Comité de Relaciones Latinas llevará al grupo en una gira guiada de una hora por exhibidores pre-elegidos. Las compañías representarán maquinaria pesada, moto implementos de mano, pesticidas, fertilizantes, materiales para paisajismo y albañilería e irrigación. También habrá una corta presentación en español por cada exhibidor. Descubra nuevo productos en un ambiente grupal relajado. Después de la gira, usted podrá visitar el resto de los exhibidores por su cuenta. Disfrute de educación, conexiones de negocios, exhibidores y diversión en español en un día.
